Visit to Saba, Statia & Sint Maarten

Between the 3rd and the 10th of November, students and teachers from teacher training colleges and music conservatoires in the Netherlands will visit Saba, Statia & Sint Maarten. The aim of this visit is to learn from the (musical) culture, music education and school system of the islands. Moreover, we will give workshops about music education to (future) primary school (music) teachers and daycare professionals of the islands.

We would like to invite all primary school teachers, music teachers and daycare professionals to join the workshops music education, free of charge.

About the workshop and onsite visit

During the low-key workshop, we will work with popular (local) music. You will learn how to incorporate music in the classroom, and will receive ideas and accessible tips to teach music to children. You don't have to be a professional musician to do this. Because the workshop is interactive, you will experience everything immediately during the workshop and know how to incorporate it in your lessons the next day.

Visits to your school or daycare facility will be customised to your needs: we can observe and learn from your music lesson, coach you on the job or give music lessons ourselves. If you sign up for a visit, we will contact you to discuss which option suits you school best.

About More Music in the Classroom (Méér Muziek in de Klas)

Structural music education for all 1.4 million primary school children in the Netherlands & Dutch Caribbean; that’s the goal of the More Music in the Classroom Foundation (in Dutch: Stichting Méér Muziek in de Klas).
One of the ways in which the foundation works towards achieving this goal, is by enhancing future teachers’ musical didactic skills. In order to do so, we work together with all teacher training colleges in the Netherlands, LOFO in Curaçao and IPA in Aruba, and all music conservatoires. They made a pact: the Music Teachers Agreement. Together, they educate the future generations of music and primary school teachers throughout the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Their agreement stipulates their cooperation for 12 years.
